Miriam Yeung (Yeung Chin Wah)
Singer, Actress
Born: February 3, 1974- Hong Kong Height: 5'4" Weight: 110 lbs.
Miriam Yeung was a registered nurse when she entered a HK singing contest in 1995.
The result: a recording contract, television roles, and a burgeoning movie career as one of
Hong Kong's top box office draws.
The smiley pop star was cast in her first film in 1998, James Yuen's youth drama Rumble
Ages, followed by a role in Golden Harvest's action film The Group the same year. Yet
Yeung's untapped starpower would not surface for another three years.
In 2001 Miriam was cast in Joe Ma's Feel 100% II, the third installment of his successful
Feel 100% series which chronicled the romantic lives of a group of young adults. Miriam was
the star in another Joe Ma comedy, Dummy Mommy, Without a Baby, but he hit paydirt
when he cast her as the loveable lead in their third collaboration, Love Undercover.
Miriam played a rookie policewoman who must go undercover to investigate a suspected triad
(Daniel Wu); instead of ace policework, a romance develops. Her girl next door charms won
over the movie-going public, and Miriam began to be sought for other starring projects.
The lesson of Yeung's newfound bankability was obvious: comedy was her forte.
Filmmakers have played it safe in their use of Miriam Yeung. She has been in the romantic
comedies Dry Wood Fierce Fire with Louis Koo and the My Lucky Star, with Tony Leung
Chiu Wai. Her performance as an out of work graduate in Derek Chiu's Frugal Game,
further confirmed her comic ability, holding her own aside veterans Eric Tsang and Carol
Cheng. Miriam has done TV shows, radio dramas, stage plays, voice work, and film.
Though her range as an actress has yet to be truly tested, she will undoubtedly be a vital
part of Hong Kong entertainment for years to come.
