Candice Yu On On is an actress best associated with the 1970's.
Yu was a Shaw Brothers regular who mostly performed in romances and martial arts
films. From 1977-1979, the fresh faced ingénue co-starred in six of Chu Yuan's
swordplay/martial arts pictures- Death Duel, The Sentimental Swordsman, Legend
of the Bat, Murder Plot, and the two Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre films.
Her co-star in several of these and other Shaw films was Derek Yee Tung Sing, whom
she dated for 8 years. The two starred in the tragic romance Young Lovers in 1979.
During her stint with Goldig Films, Candice met a young Chow Yun Fat. Their marriage was
short-lived. After the mid 1980's, she retired and became a wife, mother of two, and socialite.
In 1992, she came out of retirement to perform in Swordsman 2 with Brigitte Lin, in a role
which echoed the lesbianism in her 1984 film, Lust For Love of a Chinese Courtesan.
Although she had launched a successful side career as a singer, Candy did not make
any more films for over a decade.
After her second divorce, Candice Yu marked her 2nd comeback in Wong Jing's 2003
caper Spy Dad, playing Tony Leung Ka Fai's wife and Gillian Chung's mother.
In 2005 Candice, who has two teenage daughters of her own, played a parent in the
teen pregnancy drama 2 Young, directed by her real life first love, Derek Yee.
